Maxwell, Oda Lee-Age 68, died August 20, 1966 in the Somerset City Hospital
after several weeks illness. He was born October 15, 1897 in Wayne County,
Kentucky and was a son of Dave and Louvernia Foster Maxwell, both of whom
preceded him in death. Surviving are three sons, Floyd Maxwell of San
Diego, California, Lloyd Maxwell of Beech Grove, Indiana and Johnny Maxwell,
Indianapolis, Indiana; four daughters, Mrs. Mildred Taylor of Stearns,
Kentucky, Mrs. Laura Belle Smith of Strunk, Kentucky, Mrs. Irene Shepherd of
Jacksonville, Florida and Mrs. Minnie Ross of Pine Knot, Kentucky. He
joined the Lower Hickory Grove United Baptist Church May 2, 1959 remaining a
member there until his death.
Padgett, Jack-Was born September 19, 1857 and departed this life July 14,
1966 at the age of 108 years, 9 months and 15 days. His wife and all the
children have preceded him in death. He professed a hope in Christ in 1950
and joined the New Canaan Baptist Church and was a member at death.
Acres, John Lewis-Was born in Scott County, Tennessee November 16, 1889.
Departed this life April 22, 1966 at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 6
days. He was first married to Polly West and 10 children were born to this
union. His wife and 3 children preceded him in death. Later he was married
to Artema West and 8 children were born to this union. He is survived by
his wife, Artema Acres of Oneida; 4 sons, Millard of Oneida, Elvin of
Indiana, Jennings with the U.S. Navy, and Kenneth with the U. S.
Army in Germany; 11 Daughters, Mrs. Sherman Laxton, Mrs. Alvin Laxton, Mrs.
Thomas Stanley, Mrs. Chester Sexton and Mrs. Ralph Stanfill, all of Oneida,
Mrs. Mossie Reed of Cincinnait, Mrs. Izillah Sexton, Mrs. Edith Prosett, and
Mrs. Brenda Acres all of Muncie, Indiana, Mrs. Harold Schuler of Vancouver,
Washington and Mrs. Shirley Richmond of Michigan; 1 brother, Melvin Acres of
Oneida. He also leaves 40 grandchildren; 63 great grandchildren; and 5
great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He
professed faith in Christ August 23, 1953 and united with the Paint Rock
Baptist Church where he remained a member until the time of his death. He
was a devoted husband and father and was loved by all who knew him. "Blessed
are the dead that die in the Lord."
Strunk, Mr. Fillmore-Age 74, of Oneida, passed away Sunday
morning at the Scott County Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Lizzie Strunk; 1 son, C. L. Strunk of Oneida; 3 Daughters, Mrs. Wilma
Blevins of Oneida, Mrs. Anne Parker of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Geneva
Chambers of Arlington, Virginia; 1 Brother, Harrison Strunk of Oneida; 1
Sister, Mrs. Pearl West of Cincinnati, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 1 great
grandchild. He professed faith in Christ and united with the Paint Rock
Baptist Church on November 15, 1953. He remained a member until his
passing.
Honeycutt, John Marion-Born April 6, 1908, passed away June 8,
1966, at his home in Oneida, at the age of 58 years, 2 months, and 2 days.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Flora Laxton Honeycutt of Oneida,
Tennessee; 1 Son, Tony Max Honeycutt of Nebraska; 1 sister, Stella Babb of
Oneida, Tennessee; 6 Step-children, Gada Lay, Lindford Lay, Hillard Laxton,
and Lawtin Laxton, all of Oneida, Tennessee, Evon Laxton of Cincinnati, Ohio
and John Thomas Laxton of Spokane, Washington; 2 Grandchildren, 25 step
grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren and a host of relatives and
friends. He joined the Salem Baptist Church September 5, 1930 and later
moved his letter to the Paint Rock Baptist Church where he remained a
faithful member until death. He was united in Marriage to Flora Laxton
Honeycutt January 7, 1935, and to this union were born two children of which
one son, James Kelly, preceded him in death. We feel our loss in heaven's
gain.
Yancey, Rebecca-Born March 22, 1880, passed away April 8, 1966 at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Julia Mae Phillips, at the age of 86 years and 17
days. She was united in marriage to Talmon Yancey December 17, 1896 and to
this union were born 13 children of which the husband and 7 children
preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing, 3 Sons, Walter
Yancey and Alvis Yancey of Route 1, Helenwood, Tennessee and Elmer Yancey of
Cincinnati, Ohio; 3 Daughters, Mrs. Julia Mae Phillips of Route 1,
Helenwood, Tennessee, Mrs. Pat Perkins and Mrs. Shelby Laxton of Route 1,
Oneida, Tennessee; 2 Brothers, Sylvester Phillips and James Phillips of
Route 1, Oneida, Tennessee; 2 Sisters, Mrs. Nancy West of Oneida, Tennessee
and Mrs. Ella Yancey of Water Gap, Kentucky; 2 Half-Sisters, Mrs. Ollie
Sexton and Mrs. Stella Roark of Oneida, Tennessee; 33 grandchildren; 63
great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren, and a host of friends and
relatives. She joined the Paint Rock Baptist Church in May of 1896 where
she remained a faithful member until death. We feel our loss is heaven's
gain.
Trammell, Houk-Was born November 27, 1890, departed this life
April 12th, 1966 being 76 years, 4 months and 11 days old. He professed a
hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church
at Winfield, Tennessee where he remained a faithful member until death.
Survivors are wife, Emma Trammell; 3 Sons, Willard, Marshall and Rudy
Trammell of Winfield, Tennessee; 2 Daughters, Flora Murphy of Harriman,
Tennessee and Opal Hill of Chicago, Illinois. One daughter, Shirley Strunk,
preceded him in death. Two sisters, Mrs. I. N. Blevins of Jamestown, Tenn.
and Mrs. John Hayes of Johnson City, Illinois. He also leaves 8
Grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. We feel our loss is his eternal gain
in heaven.
Anderson, Nellie E. Ryan-Was born Mary 21st, 1887 and was a
member of Pleasant Grove Church. She was united in marriage to Benjamin H.
Anderson September 27th, 1907 and to this union was born 8 children.
Survivors: Husband, Benjamin H. Anderson; 6 sons, Jerome L., Luke E.,
Benjamin S., Samuel E. and William P. Anderson all of Strunk, Kentucky and
David Zane Anderson of Cincinnati, Ohio; 1 Daughter, Clara M. Anderson of
Tampa, Florida. One daughter, Virginia Ethel Anderson, preceded her in
death. Four sisters, Mrs. Lucreta Bray and Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart of
Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Ethel Parker of Winfield, Tennessee and Alice Nolan of
Russellville, Kentucky; 3 Brothers, Edward Ryan of Helenwood, Tennessee,
John and Jesse Ryan of Winfield, Tennessee. We feel our loss is her eternal
gain in heaven.
