Hull, J.R.-Was born Jan. 17, 1856, departed this life August 4,
1950, age 94 years, 6 months and 18 days. He was married to Louisa Jane
Goad deceased, February 14, 1879. To this union were born 11 children, all
living, five boys and six girls, [10 children listed, 7 boys and three
girls] William Hull, Margaret Buck, Artie Voiles of Armathwaite, Carrie Bow
of Indian Town, Fla., Horace, Eddie and Elmer of Armathwaite and Audie
Voiles of Shirley, Floyd Cross and Roy Hull of Jamestown. He leaves
besides the children 70 grandchildren, 99 great grandchildren and 5 great
great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He was saved and
joined the Fellowship Baptist Church at Armathwaite August 1874. He lived a
long and useful life. He often spoke of his departure, which he felt was
near at hand. Said he had no fear of death and said he couldn't understand
why he was being held here, unless it was to help some one to live a better
life. Funeral services was conducted, by his request, by Rev. L.C. Bridges,
Virgil Voiles and Sam Garrett. Asleep in Jesus blessed sleep from which
none ever wake to weep. Farewell until we meet again.
Taylor, Brother Amon-Was born March 23, 1898 and deceased this
life March 12, 1950, age 51 years, 11 months and 11 days. He joined 1st
Hickory Grove Church January 1937 and remained a faithful Christian until
death. He leaves his wife and 3 daughters and a host of relatives and
friends to mourn his absence. Funeral services were held at the Revelo
School with the Rev. Robert E. Connely, assisted by Rev. Kawood Whalen
conducting the funeral service, with the Junior order O.U.A.M. 218 of which
he was a faithful member in charge of the last rites at the Stearns
cemetery. We feel our loss is his eternal gain in glory.
West, Rev. John-Was born April 11, 1893, departed this life
October 18, 1948, being 55 years, 7 months and 1 day of age. He leaves to
mourn his absence, his wife Rose A. West and two sons living, Lelian P. West
and John West, Jr., and Arnold L. West who lost his life for his country in
Man's, France, in July 4, 1944 and many relatives and friends to mourn his
absence. Rev. West professed a hope in Christ 19 years ago and was ordained
to preach the Gospel January 10, 1932. First Hickory Grove Church.
Range, Medlena Alice Sewell-Was born April 15, 1862, departed
this life August 15, 1950, age 88 years and 4 months. She was married to
A.J. Range February 6, 1879, who preceded her in death. To this union were
born 8 children two of whom also preceded her in death. Living are Barbara
Ellen Cummingham and Lorinda Garrett of Oneida, Arvin Tompkins of
Armathwaite, Taylor Range of Winfield, Tenn., and Lafayette Range of Dayton,
Ohio, Bailey Range of Armathwaite, Tenn. She leaves 29 grandchildren, 84
great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. Two brothers, Elza
Sewell of Albany, Ind., and Dillard Sewell of Armathwaite, Tenn. Two
sisters Margaret Blevins of Winfield and Nancy Voiles of Indiana. She
professed a hope in Christ and joined the Fellowship Baptist Church of
Armathwaite in the year 1880 where she remained a faithful member until
death. Before passing on she asked if all were going to rejoice with her
because she was going to that good home where there is no more sorrow to see
father and mother and all those gone on before. Praise His Holy Name. The
influence of a great life serving in her serene and quite way will live on
forever. A loving mother from us is gone. Our loss is her eternal gain.
Reed, Irel J.-Was born November 26, 1871, aged 79 years, 4 months
and 8 days. Deceased April 3, 1950. He united in matrimony to Martha A.
Phillips in the year of 1897. To this union were born seven children all
living. He joined the Bethlehem Church of Oak Grove in the year 1897, later
moving his membership to Hazel Valley where he was a faithful member as long
as he was able to go. He said he was ready to meet his God and we know when
God called him away he was through suffering and if we live faithful until
death we will meet him again.
Dobbs, Thomas-Was born December 14, 1877, age 72 years, 8 months and 23 days
old, married to Julie Jones in 1900 and to this happy union were born 12
children, 6 of which preceded him in death and survived are 4 girls and 2
boys: Sheardie Dobbs, Jobe Dobbs, Lillie Coffey, Ester Coffey, Dora Coffey,
Edith Dobbs, and joined the United Baptist Church in the early days at Wolf
Creek and moved from there to Mountain View and lived a devoted Christian
life until death. Deceased this life September 6, 1950, leaves to
mourn his passing six children and one brother Eli Dobbs, and one sister
Angalyne Coffey and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his absence. We
believe our loss is his eternal gain in glory.
