Bauswell, Mrs. Hollie Chambers--Born May 29, 1906, departed this life April
24, 1951, age 44 years, 10 months, 28 days. She professed a hope in Christ
in the year 1934, and joined Pine Hill Church but moved her letter to Tunnel
Hill Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until death. She
is survived by her husband, Rev. Elmer Bauswell of Oneida her father
Emsley Chambers of Winfield, one sister, Mrs. Henry Carson, one brother
Millard Chambers, both of Winfield, one half brother, Willard Chambers, two
half sisters, Eliza Chambers of Oneida and Mrs. Ethel Phillips of Winfield
and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her passing. We feel our loss
is her eternal gain. A loved one from our home is gone, the voice I loved
is still, a chair is vacant in my home, that never can be filled.
Tompkins, J. C.--Was born Dec. 29, 1876, he died November 19, 1950, age 73
years, 10 months, 21 days. He was married to Florence Etta Peters Dec. 2,
1900, to this union were ten children, seven boys and three girls. Two of
them Virgil, the oldest son and Donnie the oldest daughter, preceded him in
death. Those who are living are Lawrence, Everett, Calvin, L.D., Danzie and
Wilda, all of Armathwaite, Clarence of Dayton, Ohio, Willis of Jamestown,
one brother Alex of Cordava, Ala., three sisters, Mrs. J. H. Ward of
Burrville, Tenn., Mrs. Thomas Kimbrell of Itasca, Texas and Mrs. A. B.
Brooks of Phoenix, Arizona. He leaves to mourn his
companion, 8 children, 17 grandchildren, 3 sisters and a host of relatives
and friends. He professed a hope in Christ and joined the Fellowship
Baptist Church August 1, 1891, where he
remained a true Christian until death
Duncan, Sarah Jane Stanley--Was born May 27, 1871, deceased July 9, 1951,
age 80 years, 1 month, 12 days. She was married to William C. Duncan on
Christmas Eve 59 years ago. To this union were born 8 children, two
deceased this life in their youth. She leaves her faithful husband and 6
children, Mrs. Eva Byrd, Mrs. James Jeffers, Lonnie Duncan, Claborn Duncan,
Freddie Duncan, all of Oneida, Bailey Duncan of Detroit, Mich., 16
grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Joseph Stanley of Winfield,
with a host of friends and relatives. She joined the Baptist Church at Mt.
Zion about 1893, belonging to the church 58 years. She in later days moved
her membership to Pentecost, where she remained a faithful member until
death. We feel our loss is her gain in glory.
Smith, Rev. L.B.--Was born March 7, 1878, departed this life March 27, 1950,
he leaves to mourn his wife, Mrs. L. B. Smith, Turley; Mrs. Dayton Cooper,
Jacksboro; Mrs. Frank Williams, Jacksboro; Mrs. Okla Terry, Norwood, Ohio;
Mrs. Steve Ford, Cincinnati, O.; Ruby Smith, Turley; 10 grandchildren, 2
great grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends. His gain in our loss.
Chitwood, Sylvester was born October 1, 1891, deceased May 24, 1951, age 59
years, 7 months and 14 days, was married to Margaret Wright June 5, 1921.
To this union were born 4 children; Reba Rubena, Sutton of Cincinnati, and
Rose Mary Childress of Stearns, Ky., Howard of Revelo, Ky. He also leaves 3
brothers and one sister, four grandchildren and a host of friends and
relatives to mourn his absence. He united with the Piney Grove Church 1914
and later moved to Helenwood where he remained until death. He was ordained
to the ministry Nov. 7, 1926. He was a veteran of World War I, entered the
service Aug. 1917, discharged April 23, 1919. His gain is our loss.
Phillips, Mrs. Hattie--Born Jan. 15, 1875, Deceased this life October 19,
1950. She was the wife of the late Marion Phillips, age 75 years. She
leaves to mourn her departure 3 sons, Jessie D. Phillips, Foust Phillips and
Albert Phillips, four daughters, Ella West, Anna Keeton, Grace Lyons and
Emma Blake, 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. She was baptized into
Cross Roads Baptist Church in 1900. She came to Helenwood Church by letter
and remained until death, she will be greatly missed by her children.
Wilson, Deliath--Born Aug. 30, 1873, departed this life Sept. 10, 1949, age
75 years, 11 days. She was married to Ben Wilson. She lived a good
Christian life. She joined Old Otter Creek Church in her young life, was
baptized when she was 14 years old, leaves a host of friends and relatives
to mourn her passing.
Terry, Mary Geneva--Departed this life at the age of 24 years. She leaves
to mourn her departure her father and mother, Albert Terry and wife, two
brothers and two sisters also many relatives and friends. She joined the
Helenwood Church Sept. 16, 1950 and was a member until death. She will be
greatly missed by her many friends but we hope to meet her in a better world
where parting will come no more.
