Keeton, Brother Granville--Aged 68 years, departed this life
March 28, 1951. He professed a hope in Christ and was baptized into the
Cherry Fork Church Oct. 27, 1923. He leaves a widow, five sons and three
daughters and a host of friends and relatives to mourn is absence. May they
all live so the circle will be unbroken in that day as we hope our loss in
his gain.
Stephens, Andy--Was born July 25, 1862, age 88 years, 10 months,
12 days. Departed this life June 6, 1951. He joined the Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church about 40 years ago, living a faithful Christian life. He
leaves to mourn his passing one son Cal of Winfield, two daughters, Mary
Shepherd of Larenceville, Ill., and Sarah Linsenbigler of Dayton, Ohio, 18
grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and a host of friends and
relatives. We feel our loss is his eternal gain.
Garrett, George Andrew-Was born Dec. 10, 1881, departed this
life Dec. 6, 1950, age 68 years, 11 months 26 days. Professed a hope in
Christ at an early age. Joined the Honey Creek Church, lived a devoted
Christian life, was united in marriage March 15, 1902 to Artina Elizabeth
Smithers. To his union were born 12 children, 11 boys and 1 girl. Leaves
to mourn his absence one living wife and 9 boys, 27 grandchildren, 1 great
grandchild, 1 brother Will Garrett of Armathwaite, 3 sisters of Indiana,
Mrs. Elzee Sewell, Mary Ann and Bell Garrett and a host of friends and loved
ones to mourn his absence. We feel our loss is his eternal gain in Glory.
He leaves 2 boys, 1 daughter in law in sin, by request that we as God's
children remember them in prayer.
Blevins, Bro. Jacob--Born Dec. 1, 1867, departed this life March
3, 1951, age 83 years, 3 months, 2 days. He accepted Christ as his personal
savior Aug. 1913 and was received into the New Zion Church by baptism. He
remained a faithful member until God called him to heaven, there to praise
God and be with loved ones gone on before. He told his loved ones and
friends that he had made his peace, calling an election sure, and was not
afraid to die. We feel that our loss was his gain and that his loved ones
and friends will see his smiling face again around the dazzling throne of a
never fading glory. He was married to Miss Cordelia King May 1914 and
leaves to mourn his loss his wife, 3 brothers and relatives and friends.
Gone but not forgotten.
Abbott, Genettie Margaret Cook--Born June 13, 1875, departed this
life Oct. 19, 1950, age 75 years. Joined the church at an early age. Lived
a Christian life until death. She leaves to mourn her absence a husband,
five children, 18 grandchildren, four great grand children and a host of
friends.
Bell, Tyree--Was born April 20, 1895, age 55. He joined Oak
Grove Church 1908 and lived a faithful Christian life until death. He
leaves to mourn his absence three brothers, one sister and his wife to mourn
his absence. We feel that our loss is his eternal gain in glory.
Crabtree, Rev. David--Was born Sept. 24, 1879, deceased this life
at the age of 72 years. He joined the United Baptist Church at an early
age. He was a minister of the gospel 41 years. Many were added to the
church through his ministry. He leaves a dear wife and 6 children, 4 boys
and 2 girls, 25 grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn his absence. We
feel our loss is his gain in glory.
Maloy, Glennice Phillips--Daughter of Fred and Frona B.
Phillips, born April 28, 1916, died Dec. 3, 1950, age 34 years. She joined
the Bethlehem Church at about the age of 14 years, she was a faithful
Christian, a devoted mother, she leaves four boys and 2 girls, father, one
brother, two sisters and a host of friends to mourn her going. Our loss is
her gain.
Paynter, Cephus Elmer--Died Feb. 18, 1951, born July 27, 1880,
age 70. He was a splendid citizen and a member of the Bethlehem Church and
had many friends. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mazena Goad Paynter;
five daughters, Mrs. K.C. Williams of Morrow, Ohio, Mrs. Andy Anderson of
Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Grant Cantrell of Knoxville, Mrs. Bob Kiatza of
Morrow, Ohio, and Mrs. Leonard Kaufmann of Wartburg, two brothers, Henry
Paynter, of Somerset, Ky., and Hulan Paynter of Crab Orchard, Ky., one
sister Mrs. Arch McKenney of Somerset, Ky., eight grandchildren, two great
grandchildren and a number of relatives.
Duncan, Earnest--The son of Elmer and Emma Duncan, was born
February 9, 1928, age 23 years, 6 months and 18 days. He was called to rest
August 27, 1951. He joined the New Light Church August 22, 1947. His
delight was to organize singing groups to sing in many churches. He was a
young man whom everybody seemed to love. One of his outstanding traits was
his warm friendliness, to know him was to love him. He was often
complimented for his outstanding love on loyalty to his parents, being at
the age when most young men choose to work for themselves. He chose to
support his parents who needed him. He was always the same friendly lad
when you met him, his pleasant manners won his teachers and classmates while
in school. He had many friends who visited him and he was
glad to see them. He leaves father, mother, three sisters, Gladys Angel,
Goldie Perkins, Pine Knot, Ky., Glennos Strunk, Winfield; two brothers,
Elbert Duncan, Winfield, Delbert Duncan of Indiana, 6 nieces, 8 nephews, two
uncles, 8 aunts and many relatives and friends to mourn his absence. We
feel our loss is his gain in glory.
Goad, Emma Elizabeth--Departed this life June 2, 1951. Born
Oct. 30, 1875, age 75 years, 7 months, 2 days. She professed a hope in
Christ at the age of 12 and joined the United Baptist Church and afterward
being married to W. S. Goad. She moved her membership to the Honey Creek
Church where she lived a good life until death. She was a cripple and could
not go to church as she would like to. She leaves to mourn her absence one
brother, John Mathews of Glen Mary, one sister, Mary Jane Clark of Flint,
Michigan, 5 step children, Oscar Goad of Muncie, Ind., Harvey Goad of
Pioneer, Clifton Goad, Flona Goad, Margaret Cooper, all of Armathwaite,
Tenn., and a host of friends. We feel she is resting in peace.
Terry, Bernetta Phillips--Was born April 1, 1882, age 68 years, 11
months, 28 days. Died March 29, 1951. She was married to L.D. Terry
December 25, 1906. To this union were born seven children, four boys and
three girls, one boy preceded her in death. He was killed in action in
Lorain, France. The rest are still living. She professed a hope in Christ
in 1920 and joined the Antioch Church and later moved her membership to
Opossum Rock Baptist Church, where she remained until death. She lived a
devoted Christian life for 31 years. She was a loving wife and a faithful
mother until God called her away from her suffering. She said a few days
before her passing away that she was ready to go away any time the Lord
called her. She leaves to mourn her absence, her husband, three sons, three
daughters, 32 grandchildren and a number of friends and relatives. Her work
on earth is done, but a new life in heaven has begun. We feel our loss is
her gain in glory.
