Perry, Ronnie-Was born August 25, 1896 at Honey Bee, Kentucky,
deceased this life, August 20, 1954 at 2 p.m., age 57 years 11 months and 25
days. She joined the United Baptist Church at Eagle Creek at the age of 18
and later came into the Pine Knot United Baptist Church where she lived a
faithful member until death. She leaves a husband, John Perry, one son,
Leonard Perry, Norwood, Ohio; two step-sons, Gilbert Perry, Norwood, Ohio,
and Okla Perry, Norwood, Ohio, and two sisters, Cenna Ridner, Sawyers, Ky.,
Hallie Wilson, Honey Bee, Ky.; two brothers, Uliss Vanover, Honey Bee, Ky.,
Everett Vanover of Honey Bee, Ky. Seven step-grandchildren and a host of
friends and relatives to mourn her passing, but we feel our loss is her
eternal gain in glory.
Cross, Emily C. Sexton-The daughter of the late Manuel and Jane
Sexton was born Nov. 17, 1870, departed this life December 18, 1953 at the
age of 83 years, 1 month and 1 day. She united in marriage to the late Rev.
W. A. Cross, August 8, 1886 and to this union was born 10 children, 2
daughters preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing 4 sons and
4 daughters, James of Helenwood; Thomas and Charlie of Allen, Texas; Hawood
of New York; Morlena Cross and Mrs. Lewis Coker of Charleys Branch, Tenn.;
Mrs. Howard Newport of McAllen, Texas. 3 sisters, Martha Ann Jeffers,
Arlena Phillips and Mrs. James Butram of Oneida. 1 brother, Loranza Sexton
of Fort Thomas, Ky. 30 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and a host of
other relatives and friends.
Sexton, Roena-Born February 24, 1867, deceased this life October
6, 1953. She united with the Paint Rock Baptist Church, September 1885.
She was married to Ewell Phillips, who preceded her in death. To this union
were born 4 children, two girls and two boys. Willie Phillips and Lee
Bertha Phillips preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing, two
sons, Fed Phillips and James Henry Phillips and a host of relatives and
friends. We feel our loss is her gain in glory.
Reed, Sister Rhoda Ann-Was born in 1878 and departed this life
July 4th, 1954, age 76 years. She accepted Christ as her savior and joined
the Cherry Fork Baptist Church and was baptized in March 1896 and lived a
devoted Christian life until her death. She leaves an aged husband, 1 son
and 6 daughters and a host of other friends and relatives to mourn her
departure. By her profession of faith and devoted Christian life, we feel
that our loss is her eternal gain in Glory.
Phillips, Sister Laura-Wife of John Phillips was born June 28,
1874 and departed this life February 27, 1954, age 79 years, 7 months and 29
days. She professed a hope in Christ at 12 years of age and joined the
Methodist Church and in July 1906 she joined the Cherry Fork Baptist Church
and was baptized and remained a devoted member until death. She leaves an
aged husband, 2 sons and 1 daughter and a host of other relatives and
friends to mourn her absence. By her profession of faith and life, we feel
our loss is her eternal gain in glory.
Stanley, Joseph S.-Born August 16, 1869, died April 14, 1954. He
came in the Pine Hill Baptist Church as a charter member, July 9, 1898. His
faithful Christian life and work for our Master makes us know that his home
is with Jesus. He leaves to mourn his passing 3 sons and 1 daughter and a
host of friends and relatives. We feel that our loss is his eternal gain in
glory.
Stanley, Sister Poppy-Wife of J. S. Stanley, heard the gospel
call in a great revival meeting at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in 1895.
Professed a hope in Christ and joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church,
where she remained a faithful member until death called her away, January
22, 1954, at the age of 84 years. Sister Stanley spent many years of her
early Christian life working and toiling beside Bro. Stanley to win her
children and neighbors children to Christ in the Pleasant Grove Church. The
children have lost a wonderful mother, the church a faithful member. We
feel assured our loss is her great gain in glory.
Hines, George P.-Was born August 11, 1873, departed this life
January 9, 1954, age 80 years, 4 months, and 29 days. He professed a hope
in Christ in 1941 at Louisville, Ky., and joined Pleasant Grove Church in
1951. He was a faithful member until death. He was loved by all who knew
him. His seat will be vacant in the old church, but in our hearts there
will remain many memories of the past. He leaves to mourn his passing, his
wife, Verna Hines of Winfield, Tenn., and 5 children, Marshall Hines of
Burnside, Ky.; Mrs. Claud Baker, Mrs. Jesselyn Wilson, Mrs. Robert Waymeir
of Muncie, Ind., Mrs. Lee Gilbreath of Pine Knot, Ky. We feel our loss is
his eternal gain in glory.
King, Bro. Foster-Professed a hope in Christ and joined the
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in April, 1950, where he remained a member of
the Church until his death. He leaves his wife, 4 children and 6
grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to grieve for him.
Bro. King prayed continually during his last week on earth. His last words
where that he had all things fixed up with the Lord, and he requested all
his loved ones to meet him in glory. His passing was a great loss to his
family, but we feel our loss is his gain in glory.
Chitwood, Nora Strunk-Was born September 24, 1886, and departed
this life August 30, 1954, at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 6 days.
She was the daughter of the late James and Mary Strunk. She was married to
John D. Chitwood, December 6, 1905 and to this union were born 5 children-3
sons, Homer and Myrl of Cincinnati, and one son deceased; 2 daughters, Mrs.
Marie Gwinn of Cincinnati, and Mrs. Sadie Smith of Fort Thomas, Ky. She
professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church and remained a member until death. Besides her four
children, she leaves 8 sisters and 4 brothers-Mrs. George Parnell of Oneida,
Mrs. Dillie Ryan, Mrs. Edna Stanley, Mrs. Elizabeth Sammons and Mrs. Nola
Crabtree of Winfield, Mrs. W. B. Byrd of LaFollette, Mrs. Virginia Argbrite
of Lexington, Va., Howard and Willie of Winfield, Adney of Virginia and
Alfred of Michigan. 14 grandchildren. We feel that our loss is her eternal
gain in glory.
Wilson, Sister Elize-Was born May 19, 1869, departed this life
September 30, 1954, age 85 years, 4 months, 11 days. She joined the Ross
Grove United Baptist Church August 1951. She lived a faithful Christian
life until death. She was the mother of 4 children. She now leaves a
husband, Elihu Wilson; two daughters, Rose Waters and Nannie Harvey and two
son in laws, W. E. Waters and W. H. Harvey and 17 grandchildren, and 29
great grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her absence. We feel our
loss is her eternal gain in glory.
Rector, Mrs. Sallie-Age 79 years, 1 month and 2 days, died about 5
p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a charter member of the White
Rock Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late George W. Rector.
Survivors: Daughters, Mrs. Lillie Byrd, Miss Hattie Rector, Mrs. Cordia
Potter, Mrs. Elma Byrd, all of Huntsville, Mrs. Flonnie Henson, Knoxville,
Mrs. Anna Mae Cross, Erlanger, Ky., son, Carl Rector and Porter B. Rector of
Huntsville and Dick Rector of Knoxville; 33 grandchildren, 22 great
grandchildren. Services Sunday, March 14, 1954 at 2 p.m., Huntsville High
School and her body was laid to rest in the Rector Cemetery at Straight
Fork. We feel our loss is her eternal gain in Glory.
Cross, Rev. D. M.-Age 83 years, died March 24, 1954. He was a
retired Baptist minister of Huntsville, Tenn. He was a member of the White
Rock Baptist Church. Survivors: brother W. M. Cross, Muskegon, Mich.;
sister, Mrs. Verna Brown, Jellico, Tenn.; stepchildren, Mrs. John Mabe,
Huntsville, Mrs. A. F. Massey, Powells; Lum Massengill, Kitts, Ky. Funeral
Saturday 2 p.m. at White Rock Baptist Church at Huntsville. His body was
laid to rest in the Byrd Cemetery. We feel our loss is his gain in glory.
Stephens, Mike-Born May 15, 1879, died February 19, 1954, at the
age of 74 years, 9 months and 4 days. His body was laid to rest in the
family cemetery in Huntsville. We feel that his loss is heavens gain.
