Boyatt, Lewis Harvey-Age 80 years, 10 months, 19 days, passed away at his
home Wednesday evening September 16, 1953, after an extended illness. He
was married to Rachel Foster, and to this union were born ten children, six
girls and 4 boys, one sons, Clarence, preceded him in death. He was one of
Scott County's best known citizens, a member of the United Baptist Church,
and was loved and admired by all who knew him. Survivors are: wife, Rachel
Boyatt and nine children. The sons, Willie, Fred and Lester Boyatt of
Oneida; six daughters, Mrs. Florence Maxwell, Mrs. Eva West, Mrs. Lola
Slaven, Mrs. Mavis Slaven and Mrs. Dorothy Foster all of Oneida, Mrs. Nola
Tapley of Pine Knot, Ky. One brother, Alvis Boyatt and 3 sisters, Mrs.
Margaret Foster, Mrs. Jane West and Mrs. Ellen Bell all of Oneida. 62
grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Burial in the Foster Cross Roads
Cemetery. We feel our loss is his eternal gain in glory.
Jones, George Dewey-Was born August 25, 1898, deceased this life
January 15, 1953, age 54 years, 4 months and 21 days. He was married to
Creacy Jane Ryan November 20, 1920 and to this union were born 9 children.
He joined the First Hickory Grove Baptist Church September 1925. He was a
faithful member until death and was loved all who knew him. We feel our
loss is his eternal gain in glory. He leaves his wife, Creacy; his sons,
Howard, James, Carl, Paul, Willie, Dale, Ralph, Roland and daughters,
Geneva, Juanita and Genevieve. He also leaves six grandchildren, two
brothers, Johnny and Thomas, and five sisters, Verda, Ada, Loretta, Laura
and Nolia. Besides a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his
absence.
Terry, Sister Leona-Born August 9, 1902, departed this life July
22, 1954. She united with this Church October 25, 1933 by baptism. She
leaves a husband, two sons and other relatives and friends who hope to meet
her where there is no more pain and sad farewells. Helenwood Baptist
Church.
Ross, Brother Marion-Was born December 23, 1870, deceased this
life March 27, 1954, 83 years, 3 months and 4 days. He joined the Highway
Baptist Church June 7, 1953 and was baptized June 7, 1953. We feel our loss
is his eternal gain in glory.
Laxton, Louanner Jane-Was born October 7, 1866, and departed this
life December 20, 1953, age 87 years, 2 months and 13 days. She joined the
New Salem Church at the age of sixteen years and moved her membership to the
Paint Rock Church a few years ago. She lived a devoted Christian life. She
married John Laxton, Jr., in 1886, and to this union were born six children,
two of which preceded her in death, Zettie Laxton and Floyd Laxton. In her
going she leaves her husband, John Laxton, Jr., two daughters, Mrs. Flona
Jeffers of Huntsville, Tenn., and Mrs. Clona Sexton of Oneida, Tenn.; and
two sons, Shelby Laxton and Dexter Laxton both of Oneida, Tenn. Twelve
grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren and a host of friends and
relatives. We feel that our loss is Heavens gain.
Acres, Brother David-Born December 11, 1869, deceased this life
August 9, 1954. He was married to Martha Watson, 1894. To this union were
born five daughters, Mrs. Zetta Strunk, Winfield, R. 1, Mrs. Leonard Reed,
Oneida, R. 1, Mrs. Luther Duncan, Oneida, R. 1, Mrs. Garvil Reynolds,
Oneida, Mrs. James Strunk, Cincinnati, Ohio; Fours sons, Sherman and Freeman
of Oneida, Caney Acres, Cleveland, Ohio, Herbert of Dearborne, Mich. He
joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church about 55 years ago and later moved his
letter to Pine Hill Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until
death. He left a host of relatives, grandchildren and great grandchildren,
and many friends to mourn his passing. May we all prepare to meet him where
parting is no more.
Marcum, Emmitt Ray-Son of Ezra and Lena Marcum was born June 20,
1933 and departed this life February 4, 1954 in Walter Reed Hospital,
Washington, D.C., at the age of 20 years, 7 months and 14 days. He enlisted
in the U. S. Army September 1953. He professed a hope in Christ November
1949 and united with the Pine Creek Baptist Church where he remained a
faithful member until death. He is survived by father and mother, 3 sisters
and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Blevins and Mrs. Marion Marcum. He was
a member of the Oneida High School graduating Class of 1951. He was loved
and admired by all who knew him. We feel that our loss is his eternal gain
in Heaven.
Blevins, Sister Polly Crabtree-Born November 21, 1874, departed
this life March 18, 1954. She was married to Shade Blevins August 8, 1896.
To this union were born 11 children, 5 of whom preceded her in death. She
was a faithful member of the United Baptist Church of New Zion for several
years and lived a faithful devoted life. She was a faithful and devoted
mother, and we feel that her departure is her eternal rest in Heaven, where
no heartaches never nor said farewells never come but a eternal Home in
glory, where loved ones may meet her and sing Praises to God for ever more.
Sexton, Clifford-Born July 12, 1892, deceased May 11, 1954, Son of
Talmon and Mary Sexton. His father preceded him in death. He was united in
marriage to Ollie Phillips and to this union were born 10 children in which
2 preceded him in death. He united with the Paint Rock Baptist Church at an
early life and lived a devoted Christian until death. He leaves to mourn
his absence, his wife, mother and 8 children and many relatives and friends.
5 boys and three girls, Harry, Wilburn, Howard, Mary Lou, Estell Cross, all
of Oneida; Mrs. George Rawlins of Mason, Ohio; Clifton of Greenville, Tenn.;
Dewey of Knoxville, Tenn. We feel our loss is his eternal gain as Christ
hath said: He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.
Sexton, Emily-Born January 11, 1864, deceased this life, May 27,
1954, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 16 days. She joined the Paint
Rock Baptist Church in September 1885. She lived a faithful Christian life
until death. She was a guiding light to all who knew her. She leaves to
mourn her absence six children. Four sons and two daughters, Eamer, Arbin,
Ezra and Everett Sexton; Mrs. Orpha Sexton and Mrs. Oma Sexton. She leaves
a host of friends and other relatives. We feel our loss is her eternal gain
in glory.
Duncan, Mona Sexton-Daughter of William and Eldora Sexton, born
April 15, 1892, deceased this life June 15, 1954, age 62 years and two
months. She married to John Duncan, August 15, 1915. To this union were
born five children, two preceded her in death, Harry and Mildred Duncan.
Three children living to suffer her loss, Mrs. Clarence Strunk and Claude
Duncan of Oneida, Tenn., Willie Duncan with the U. S. Navy now stationed in
the Hawaiians Islands. To mourn her absence is husband, mother and one
sister, Rona Sexton; Three brothers, Frank, Schofield and D. L. Sexton. Six
grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. She professed a hope in
Christ at a very early age and united with the Paint Rock Baptist Church May
8, 1910 where she remained a faithful consecrated member until death. She
was a devoted wife and mother and was loved and admired by all who knew her.
We feel our loss is her eternal gain in glory.
