Arnold Ball
Arnold Dow Ball, 85, of Lebanon since 1957 and formerly of
Kentucky, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001 at Hospice of Dayton.
He was born in Bethel, Ky. on Oct. 8, 1916 to George Matt and Rosa
(Swain) Ball and was a graduate of McCreary County High School. He
served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Lebanon
City Schools in 1981 after 24 years with the maintenance department.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Lebanon, where
he served as both Deacon and Trustee. He was also a former member
of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, F&AM, and was an Honorary
Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed building and refinishing furniture.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vernon Ball, sister,
Ruth Perkins; and son-in-law, Jed Whitaker.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Anna Grace (Moore) Ball
(daughter of Cardine Moore and Etta Gilreath Moore); two daughters,
Pat Smith and her husband Bill of Naperville, Ill. and Paula Whitaker of
Lebanon; two brothers, Noble Ball of Florida and Homer Ball and his
wife Dorothy of Cincinnati; sister, Eudena Perkins of Cleveland; five
grandchildren, Stephanie Edwards, Jake Smith, Matthew Smith, Abigail
Campbell and her husband Jason, and Luke Whitaker; and two great-
grandchildren, Christopher Edwards and Joshua Zachary Campbell.
Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon with funeral
service immediately following all at the Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home,
Lebanon with the Rev. Donald Dewey and the Rev. Marty Egelston
officiating. Interment followed at Lebanon Cemetery. Memorials are
requested to either the First Baptist Church of Lebanon or Cedars of
Lebanon Nursing Home.
