MUNCIE - Phillip Steven McCartney, age 64, of Monticello, Ky., and formerly
of Bloomington, Ill., Heyworth, Ill., and Muncie, passed away Saturday, April
12, 2003, in Harrodsburg, Ky.

He was born Sept. 6, 1938, in Muncie to the Late Lloyd and Marcella Bunsold
McCartney. Phil was a 35-year member of International Labor Union of North
America Local Union 362 before retiring to Monticello, Ky., in 1995.

On the morning of Oct 4, 1948, the Muncie Evening Press front page read.
Parents of Seven Die in Crash. Lloyd and Marcella McCartney were killed on
the Wilson Road Crossing by a New York Passenger Train. Neighbors and friends
of Christ Temple Church took care of the children. Phil was 10 years-old when
his parents were killed. Phil was raised by Noble and Della Troutman, very
close friends of his mother and father, from age 10 to 16, at which time he
went to live with Harold and Elizabeth Mock, also friends of his parents. The
Mocks were wonderful to Phil, and with their love and assistance he graduated
from Muncie Central High School. Phil called Harold and Elizabeth Mock Mom
and Dad and his children were very proud to call them Grandma and Grandpa.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Pauline Wilson McCartney; two
daughters, Sharon Craig (husband: Danny) of LeRoy, Ill., and Tami Menken of
Lancaster, Ky.; six grandchildren, Danielle and Patrick Craig of LeRoy, Ill.,
Candice Menken of Bloomington, Ill., Cody Menken of Carlock, Ill., and
Cherish Menken and Tiara Hollon of Lancaster, Ky.; a great-grandchild, Hannah
Craig of LeRoy, Ill.; four brothers, Jim McCartney (wife: Viola), Joe
Ashcraft and Mark Sullivan, all of Muncie, and Tim Duke (wife: Trudy) of
Marshall, Mich.; and a sister, Christi Jones of Muncie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Jerry McCartney
(1947) and David Robbins (1985).

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the Parson
Mortuary with Rev. Harold Gill officiating. Burial will follow in Yorktown
Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
