MUNCIE - Goldman (Goldie) Waters, 80, Muncie, went to be with the Lord
Tuesday, June 3, 2003.
He was born in Stearns, Ky., the son of Henley Waters and Lillie Ledbetter
Waters. He grew up in Kentucky and married Ethel Tapley Nov. 25, 1941. He worked
at Stearns Coal and Lumber Co. for 11 years before moving to Muncie in 1955.
He then worked for Delco Battery in Muncie for 25 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a charter member of West Side United Baptist Church, where he served
as a deacon, being ordained April 27, 1957. He was a member of the Delco
Sympathy Club, the UAW Local 489, and was also a Kentucky Colonel.
He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ethel Tapley Waters; five sons,
Goldman Delon Waters (wife: Geneva), Tommy Waters (wife: Nila), Larry Waters (wife:
Dedra) of Muncie, Robert Waters (wife: June) of Gaston, and Dewayne Waters
(wife: Jullie) of Selma; four daughters, Phyllis Winningham (husband: James),
Janice Thornbro (husband: Bill) of Muncie, Irene Legg (husband: Terry) of Peru,
and Trula Smith (husband: Gene) of Daleville; 24 grandchildren, 27
great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by nine brothers, Simon Waters and Brent Waters of
Muncie, Jimmy Waters and John Waters of Whitley City, Ky., Dallas Waters of
Winfield, Tenn., Don Waters, David Waters and Bobby Waters of Daleville, and Phillip
Waters of Yorktown; three sisters, Corina Levell and Louise Spradlin of
Daleville, and Laura Gregory of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind a host of friends who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ronald, Fleenor
and Dakota Waters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Westside United Baptist Church on
Cornbread Road, with Pastor Larry Waters and Rev. Eugene Gregory officiating.
Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. today at Parson Mortuary and 1
hour before services Friday at the church.
