United States Marine Corps Private. Iwo Jima Flag Raiser. He was one of the
six men who raised the American Flag on Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima on February
23, 1945. The scene was photographed by Joe Rosenthal and it was the basis
for the Iwo Jima Memorial. Pvt Sousley was later killed in action on Iwo Jima on
