D. Frank Standifer, 89, of Monroe, died at 3:35 AM, Friday, March 23,2005,
in the Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been in poor health since entering
the hospital Tuesday. Friends may call 5-8 PM Sunday and 12-8 PM Monday at
the Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 South Telegraph, Monroe Michigan 48161. He
will lie in state Tuesday at the Stewart Road Christian Ministry Center from
10 AM until his funeral service at 11 AM. The Revs. Sam Luke and E.W. Jukuri
will officiate and burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park,
LaSalle. He was born December 15, 1915 in Harrogate, TN to Jesse and Julia
(Gilbert) Standifer. He married Minnie E. Farmer, December 22, 1934 in
Middlesboro, KY. They came to Monroe during World War II while he worked at
the Willow Run Bomber Plant, after the war, they moved back down south
before coming to Monroe, Michigan permanently in 1948 from Fork Ridge, TN.
He went to work for Consolidated Paper Company for a few years before going
to Monroe County Road Commission for the next 25 years. He retired from
there in 1977. He was a member of the Stewart Road Christian Ministry Center
and enjoyed gardening. He collected rocks and antique model cars. Survivors
include his wife, Minnie E. Standifer, of Monroe, 3 sons, , 5 daughters,, a
daugther-in-law, 30 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, 11 step great
grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Sadly, he was preceded in
death by a son, Gary Standifer, February 10, 2001, a son-in-law, Jim
Hellenberger, 2 grandchildren, and a great grandchild. Memorial gifts in his
name may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
