MUNCIE - Pastor Simon S. Waters, 82, of Muncie, went home to be with the Lord
Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Ball Memorial Hospital Emergency Room after a
sudden illness.
He was born January 20, 1924 in Stearns, Kentucky to Henley and Lillie
Ledbetter Waters. Pastor Waters attended school in Kentucky. He was a laborer for
Delco Battery for twenty-six years, retiring in 1979. Pastor Waters was ordained
in April of 1943 and was Pastor of Gloryland United Baptist Church, Muncie,
member of Delco Sympathy Club, Delaware Lodge #46 F & AM, Order of Eastern Star
# 104, Muncie. Simon pastored churches in Kentucky and Indiana. He was the
founding pastor of West Side United Baptist Church where he served as pastor for
26 years and also founded Gloryland United Baptist Church and pastored there
from 1983 until his time of death. Simon preached numerous revivals, baptized
many, performed weddings for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting,
beekeeping, wood working, and working in his yard.
Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Cora Wilson Waters; one son,
William Watters (wife-Mary) of Anderson; one step-son, Harvey Smith
(wife-Trula) of Daleville; one step-daughter, Mary Lou Spradlin (husband-Carl) of Muncie;
one daughter-in-law, Sue Watters of Muncie; eight brothers, Phillip Waters
(wife-Sue) of Daleville, Brent Waters of Muncie, John Watters of Stearns,
Kentucky, Don Watters (wife-Charlotte) of Daleville, Dallas Watters of Winfield,
Tennessee, Bobby Watters (wife-Anna) of Daleville, David Watters (wife-Wilma) of
Daleville, Jimmy Waters (wife-Maxine) of Whitley City, Kentucky; three
sisters, Laura Gregory of Beech Grove, Indiana, Corine Levell (husband- Norm) of
Daleville, Louise Spradlin of Daleville; a sister-in-law Ethel Waters; seven
grandchildren, Tony Watters (wife-Shannon), Rodney (special friend-Wende Keesling),
Janie Wells (husband-Roger), Devona Coffey (husband-Larry), Amanda Vandagriff
(husband-Jeff), Jacinna Salyers (husband-Monty), Sarah Smith, seventeen
great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Marie Duncan Waters; one
son, Wilburn Watters; four brothers Randall, Dakota, Fleenor, and Goldman Waters.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Parson
Mortuary with Pastors Sammy Vaughn and Larry Waters officiating. Burial will follow
at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 9 PM Friday, March 24, 2006 at
Parson Mortuary and on Saturday one hour prior to services.
Eastern Star Services will be held at 7:00 PM Friday and Masonic Services
will be held at 7:30 PM Friday also at the mortuary.
