Wayne Wm. Whitecotton, son of Aaron Whitecotton, was born 4 Feb 1811 Campbell County, TN - 21 Apr 1863 at the Confederate prison for captured Union soldiers in Andersonville, GA. He was a Captain in the Union army. After the war was over someone from the family went to Andersonville and brought his body back to the Whitecotton Cemetery in Paint Rock. In 1850 he was on the foundation committee that carved Scott County out of Campbell, Anderson, Morgan and Fentress counties.

I think you Wm. Wayne may have been later on in history but he may be related. He married Sarah Lee West and had three daughters, Elizabeth who always wrote her name Cotton as an adult, China and Martha. Eliza married Francis Marion Chambers and they had at least seven children. Martha married James Phillips and had at least six children. China married John Marion Cordell and had five children I know about.
