Here's what I have. I hope I don't confuse you. You see I went to the KY Birth Index at Ancestry.com an got confused myself.

GEORGE HAYES was born February 02, 1894 in Hayes Creek, Whitley Co., KY, and died May 03, 1978 in Colonial Hill Nursing Home, Johnson City, TN. He married DAISY STEPHENS, daughter of JOHN STEPHENS and SARAH MANNING. She was born August 25, 1897, and died December 12, 1967.

George Hayes , 84, formerly of McCreary County, died Wednesday, May 3, [1978] at the Colonial Hill Nursing Home, Johnson City, Tenn., after an illness of three weeks. Graveside services were held Friday, May 5, at 3:30 p.m. at the Lower Cal Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Oscar Morgan officiating. He was born Feb. 2, 1894, at Hayes Creek to the late Will and Mary Gilreath Hayes. He was a retired miner and a member of UMWA Local 6660, District 29. Survivors include three children, John and Paul Hayes, of Bristol, Tenn., and William Hayes of Vipers, Ky.; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Creekmore, of Cleveland, Tenn., and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Flonnie Hayes of Pine Knot. His wife, Daisy Stephens Hayes, preceded him in death. West and Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. [Cumberland River Region Obituaries]
