Menda Francis Troxell Gumm

Menda Francis Troxell Gumm, age 84, passed away February 10, 2007, after a long illness. She was born in McCreary County, Ky., on August 21, 1922, to the late Charles & Cynthia Wilson Troxell. Menda was married to Boyd Gumm for 50-1/2 years who preceded her in death in 1989. She is survived by 4 daughters: Barbara Banks (Stanley), Morehead, Ky., Charlene Hylton (Donnie), Isom Ky., Clara Sue Maggard (Jim) Pell City, Alabama, Betty Ann Sexton (Jackie), Isom, Ky., grandchildren: Delamin (Randy) Fields, Denise (Bryon) Jacobs, Steve (Debbie) Maggard, Paul (Rhonda) Banks, and Dianne (Jimmy) Collins; 7 great-grandchildren: Rachel and Allison Banks, Christopher and Cayce Maggard, Brynnan, Colton, and Connor Jacobs; and a special friend and neighbor, Linda Breeding.
Menda was a member of the Cody Bible Church for over 50 years. There she had 3 very special friends: Miss Teda Smith, Miss Helen Johnson, and Miss Helen Nyberg who went home to the Lord in 2005. Menda was a loving mother, grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She was a homemaker as well as a career woman who worked for R.H. Hobbs for 25 years.
The family would like to thank all the people who helped take care of Menda this past year, especially the nurses and staff at Letcher Manor. They appreciate you very much.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesburg, Ky., with Bufford Combs officiating. Burial followed at the Evergreen Cemetery at Whitesburg, Kentucky, under the direction of the Letcher Funeral Home.
