Joy,
The DNA test only requires one sample from a male Ramsey and that sample represents all the Ramsey family for many generation. They all have the same DNA for the Y Chromosome test. Only infrequently do selected markers change. Sometimes they change due to environmnetal or diet.
Therefore all your ex husbands cousins aunts and uncles have the same DNA and in your case of limited funds is not a new issue. I hear this every day and the best way is to email, call or announce at the family Reunion that the family has decided to participate in the DNA testing and that you need their help with a nominal donation. I did this in my family and just a few weeks I had enough to join. The Sevier Co TN Ramsey family litterly passed the hat for donations at the annual Family Reunion and collected their money in 5 minutes.
There are several options. You can view our options at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ramsey/indexDNA.html and see DNA results. If you chose a lower value option you can always upgrade later without having to send in another DNA sample. I typically suggest the 37 marker test.
Once you've ask for donations let me know how much you've collected and then I can help you chose an option. I may also be able to help you find other Ramsey who will be willing to help you with the funding. Lets work together and see if can get the answer of which Ramsey family Dempsey Ramsey came from. I have my guess as to which DNA family he descends from but who do you think is his father?
My family members donated no more thatn 20 dollars per contributior and many only donated 5 dollars. I even had two members donate 100 each and I ended up returning the excess so no one person donated more than 20 dollars.
I'm a volunteer searching for my Ramsey family members and have been very sucessful in locating branches or our Ramsey family 2 and their is a good chance we'll be very successful in helping you also. Look at our results page and see all the red number 2 that I've found. Remeber as a Volunteer I do not handle your funds. I takes someone within your family like yourself to coordinate the donations.
Let me know how else I can help.
