My Great Grandfather was called Zorel Foster. I'm sure that Zorel was probably short for something but I don't know what. I don't know anything for certain about his parents either. What I do know about him is that he served in the 30th Kentucky Mounted Infantry (Union) during the Civil War and was inducted at Camp Burnside. He married Millie Ramsey on January 1, 1871. I know of 11 children they had: Edward (my Grandfather - born in 1888, died in 1944), Luther, William, Dock, Cornelius, Bert, Owen, Mary Liz, Maude, Hattie May, and Cordelia.
Family tradition says that Zorel had a brother named Shelby and a sister named Polly Ann. I know nothing else about them. Zorel was born about 1843 and died about 1912.
My grandfather Edward Foster married Bertha Perkins (1901-1987, daughter of Emma Bryant and Lewis Perkins) in 1921 (Ed was 13 years older than Bertha) and they had 10 children, 4 of which are still living. Ed worked as a coal miner until he developed black lung. He then went to work for a railroad in Cincinnati, where he was crushed between two train cars and killed in 1944.
