Jerry, I went through through the family history written by Gough
History; Thomas Morton Gough, September 18, 1969. and found three
interesting passages.

1. " The original Gough families spread thru-out Central Kentucky.
One group settled in Scott County, Ignatius (1752), Ann (1743), Susan
(1753), James (1755) and John B. Gough (1765). James and John B.
remained in Scott County and raised their families. Records indicate
that they lived at this location until 1820-1830. Ignatius moved on to
Breckinridge County and had at least sons, Cornelius (1776), and Thomas
J. (1777)."

(I have Cornelius and Thomas J. Gough as the children of James Gough and
Susanna Medley Jenkins:

1 James Gough b: September 15, 1748 in St. Marys Co. MD d: September 26,
1826 in White Sulphur KY
. +Susanna Medley Jenkins b: August 15, 1746 d: January 13, 1795 in
White Sulphur KY Father: Thomas Courtney Jenkins Mother: Mary Fenwick m:
1766 in St. Mary's Co, MD )

"The section where they lived later became Meade County. Thomas J. Gough
represented Meade County in 1838 in the Frankfort Assembly that framed
the present Kentucky State Constitution. Ignatius was pensioned as a
Revolutionary War Veteran in 1833."

2. "Another group of Gough's settled on Pottinger's Creek. 10 to 15
miles from Bardstown in 1785. Only George and Isaac appear on Census
records in this area (1810), although it is known that Susannah (1753)
and Ann (1743) lived in Nelson County in 1833. (Howard & Montgomery,
married names) Susannah was originally married to a Derkward, presumably
in Maryland, 2nd in Springfield, Ky. to Montgomery.)"

3. "Ignatius Gough (1753) Breckinridge County, Ky Private, Virginia Line
(War 1776) petitioned for pension 3/4/1831, 10/18/1833 at age 61 (81?).
Oct 1832, at age 79, Ignatius Gough stated he entered Revolutionary war
Service in February, 1776 under Capt. McCuens, and Capt Thomas and
served in the !st campaign to the North under him, served in the
regiment of the Maryland Line. When he enlisted he lived int St. Mary's
County, Md. In the 1st campaign he was commanded by Capt. Thomas and
General Sullivan. On this tour he was engaged about 2 years, 3 months,
and returned to Maryland last December 1776. In month of May, 1777 he
was transferred to the command of Capt. Wm. Campbell and was employed in
the Fort in service at Annapolis, Md. In May, 1778 he was discharge for
bad health under the direction of Dr. John Johnson, Surgeon and Thomas
Johnson who was then Governor of Maryland. He lived in the extreme east
end of St. Mary's County about 20 miles from the Courthouse. He made
application in presence of Cornelius Gough, who was Justice of the Peace. "

4. "Nelson County, KY. 8/19/1833: There appeared before a justice of the
peace, Ann Gough Howard, age 90, and Susan Gough Montgomery, age 80, who
swore that they were the sisters of Ignatius Gough and recall that
sometimes in 1776 at the beginning of the War, Ignatius enlisted.
Sometime in Spring of 1778, he returned home sick and had been
discharged. "We recollect that he was frequently called for duties
during the wars afterward."

Ignoring some apparent inconsistencied. These folks traveled in family
groups. So it is reasonable to think that the Goughs in the first
paragraph were siblings or close cousins. I think the most likely
candidate for Ignatius, Ann and Susannah's parents are James Gough and
Priscilla Heard. Ignatius and Susannah Gough are siblings and Ann Gough
Howard could be widow of their brother Stephen. This is a stretch but it
is the most plausible explanation based on the sketchy documentation.
Can anyone on list shed any light on this family?
