Hear, hear, Billie!!
By the way, I've been a subscriber to the Lewis list for about 6 months and
Bryan's reply to you was very unusual. I've found the list full of very nice
people who are very knowledgeable about their Lewis line. In fact, it was
through this group that I met (on line) a third cousin (who lives about 50
miles from me, and a 5th cousin who lives in the Great Britain with access
to records of my Welsh Ancestors. Both of these cousins have given me so
much information that I now have my mothers line, Lewis, back about 30
generations.
Don't judge this group by this one incident. Just remember that there are no
admission requirements to this or any other rootsweb groups other than
access to the internet, anybody can join, and a few of those "anybody"s
will, invariably, demonstrate their bad manners and/or lack of knowledge.
Bryan is, as far as I can tell from the posts he's made with this group, a
professional Genealogist. Since I am not familiar with his work, I'll pass
no judgment as to whether his work is good or bad. I do, however, remember
from my United States History courses in High School and in University (Math
major, History minor) that the English (and I suppose others) fished
extensively off the Maine coast prior to the founding of the little colony
at Plymouth. My wife, by the way, has been able to trace her roots back to
the Mayflower, and probably would be embarrassed if she knew I was posting
that information.
Don't "unsubscribe". This is a good group, and very, very active.
