Does anyone have any information about Lewis's in Humboldt, Gibson Co., TN
in the late 1800s. My grandfather was born March 15, 1889 in Humboldt. The
information we have is that he was born Jess(e) Lewis, but we don't have any
mother's or father's name. He was adopted in 1893 by William T. and Barbara
Jane (Walters) Stewart and taken to Paris, Lamar Co., Texas, where he grew
up.

The story we were told as we grew up is that his mother was alive at least
until after he married in 1911. She contacted him, but he would have
nothing to do with her. We assume that he felt he had been abandoned.
If anyone has information that matches this, I would love to talk to you.
