Nichole, I have this book. "Colloquial" means the language as people speak
it - rather than a stiff, formal approach to learning a language. It is a
good book and tape but I found that it was not the best for learning to
pronounce words/phrases, etc - it goes too fast and doesn't allow for
repeating after the speaker enough. However, it's the best I've seen. -
except for a more basic course from Pimsleur. Their approach is on spoken
language and there is really no book.
But it's a GREAT way to learn to pronounce the language and to speak some
basics at least! I've used it for German also. You can get it from World
Languages I think it's called or direct from them. For World Language
Resources - http://www.worldlanguage.com It's more expensive - I think
$100 for 5 cassettes - but I'm hoping they'll come out with a larger course
as they have for other languages ($350 for 15 cassettes). Maybe if we
lobby them!! The basic course just came out in 1997.
