I am new to this, so I shall defer to those of you who know more about this
organization....However, I have been reading about APPLE, (American
Partnership for Lithuanian Education), an American organization that sends
teachers, and other professionals, to Lithuania for a few weeks in the summers
to assist in training their teachers. Being a fool for book stores -- old and
new -- I inquired about sending books there to assist in their efforts. I got
a respose to my inquiry from Ilona Laucius (). She said that
they welcome all books, "Different kinds of dictionaries are always handy, or
books on American slang, Idioms for foreigners, children's books & cassettes,
etc."
This is how you could particpate if you are interested. She permitted me to
share this with our group, and hopes to join us soon!!
HER RESPONSE:
"Finally I got my full information together for sending books with Lithuanian
Catholic Religious Aid container. The boxes should be sent by May 15th to:
LCRA
c/o Regina Collins
45 Kingman Rd.
So. Orange, NJ 07079
Paste a smaller label underneath addressed to Lithuania:
Ministry of Education
Volano 2/7
Vilnius, Lietuva/Lithuania
Attention: M. Speiciene/A.P.P.L.E '98 (name your location UT, PAN or MAZ)
UT--Utena
PAN--Panevezys
MAZ--Mazeikiai
The label with LCRA So. Orange address should be taped on the edges of over
the Lithuanian address in such a way, that it would be easy to remove it with a
razor blade. If you have any questions, let me hear from you again. Ilona
Laucius "
Hope you all don't mind me using this forum to do a little social work-type
promotion for our friends and family in Lithuania.
Regards, Joni
