Hi Dean
I have a client who's Ancestor was a Loyalist in the Rev War. In tracing him
I found that he originated in the Mohawk Valley of NY per a Canada reference
on his sons Loyalist descendant Land Records. I am seeking others who were
in the Area prior to the Rev as I believe that they might go back to the
original Irish Settlement in NYS such as some of my own Ancestors did. Most
of the Irish were divided on the War and although many were Patriots they
also fought against brothers who were Loyalists.
The Line I am tracing for my Client was a William Lyon or Lyons as you need
to check both spellings while searching and was from Mohawk Valley and
settled later in the Woodhouse section of Norfolk County in Ontario.
Samuel Adams once said that 1/3 were Patriots, 1/3 were Loyalists and the
other 1/3 were truly undecided which stand to take.
