Subject: [NE-LLCGS] Cemetery cleaning needed
Date: Mon, 14 Jul 2003 09:42:11 EDT
I have just had a new "volunteer" who posted the other day that she and her
husband will be taking many tombstone photos for anyone who wants them for
Nebraska Tombstone Project and NEGenWeb Project. She took 50 photos yesterday for
me with the help of her husband and daughter. She is a gem! I asked to have
tombstones photos of several of my kin that are buried in St. Patrick Cemetery
in Davey, she also did St. Mary's Cemetery and found more relatives. Then she
did Saltillo-Simmons Cemetery. Here is a snippet of her message and I am
wondering how I can get someone to clean this cemetery?
The relatives buried in the Simmons-Saltillo Cemetery are KINCHELOE, CLARK,
GRANT & HOY.
>>Hi Kathie,
WOW it was a hot day out today.
I took my husband and daughter with me today to take photos.
I found all the ones on you list.
But was very very sad at the condition at Simmons - Saltillo Cemetery. The
grass has NOT been cut in forever, it is at least 22-26 inches long in most
areas. Uggg! There is also a NO TRESPASSING sign on the front gate. Another sad
item.<<
If it has a NO TRESPASSING sign --- I wonder how legal this is? I thought
that cemeteries on private land (if this is truly private) had to allow access
for family to these graves. My GGGG-grandmother, GGG-grandparents and SEVERAL
family members are buried there. I am physically unable to do any cemetery
cleaning because of my health and disability but wonder if there is someone who
can spearhead an effort to clean up this cemetery? Any ideas or suggestions?
