Hi all,
I am looking for info. on my family name AUSTIN. My great *4
grandfather, James Austin (1760 -18??), was born in Ireland and
ultimately settled in Nova Scotia, Canada. He served in Lt. Col.
Tarleton's regiment (on the side of the British) during the American
Revolution. I think this unit may have been assembled in New York,
which would mean he probably emigrated to America sometime during the
1770s.
Although I do not know what county he came from, I know he was
Presbyterian and that suggests he was probably from the North. Also, an
on-line friend stated that there were Austins in the town of Tandagree
during the 1700s. Does anyone know if this is true? Were there Austins
in Tandagree or other parts of Armagh? Are there any records out there
of any Austins leaving Armagh for North America in the 1770s? I'd love
to hear from anyone who could help.
Andrew M. Austin
