Hello to all!

We're new to this list and tracing origin of great-grandfather Robert Charles MARSHALL.

He was born in Ireland July 8, 1843 and came to Canada 'at an early age'. On October 16, 1864, he married Mary Ann RISEBROUGH, herself born September 29, 1844, reportedly in Ontario, Canada (Mary Ann is a separate mystery, we may have a lead). Robert and mary Ann raised a family of 16 children, born 1865 through 1890 in Oxford County, Ontario, Canada. From about 1905 through 1912, Robert was in Alberta, Canada (probably near Redcliff, just west of Medicine Hat) with three of his sons. At least one son established himself as a homesteader. Robert died January 29, 1917 in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada.

Robert had at least one other family member in Canada! One of his daughters, our grandmother, was married by Reverend W.H.L. MARSHALL, her cousin from Frome, Ontario, Canada and an ordained Congregatioal minister.

Part of the family lore is that Robert Charles MARSHALL was related to MARSHALL LINEN MILLS in Ireland. Another is that he had 'something to do with horses'. In some ways the lifestyle in Canada suggests the possibility of some private income.

While we recognize there may be nothing to the MARSHALL LINEN MILLS connection, it is also possible that it just may be so. Does anyone know of a MARSHALL LINEN MILL which may have been in operation in Ireland in the 1840-1860 period?
