Hi Daryl,
Sure, glad to help!
Each county in Ireland has a geneology center (with the exception of Louth,
so far). Armagh's is Armagh Ancestry, which can be found at:
<A HREF="http://www.irishroots.net/Armagh.htm">County Armagh Genealogy -
Armagh Ancestry</A>
I have had very good luck with them. I sent them the name of my gr gr
grandfather, Bernard Rice, and who I supposed was his birthdate and his
parents' names. They first sent me back his real birthdate (I was one year
off), confirmed the names of his parents, and also sent me the name of his
baptismal sponsors, and the parish he was born in (Lower Killevy).
Armed with this information, I wrote again requesting the names of any
sibblings, and they once again sent back a list of three sisters and a
brother. (I had already known about an older brother who was born before the
church records began, and also about one of the sisters). In the meantime, I
also visited my local FHC, where I found they had a microfilm of the
baptismal and marriage records for Lower and Upper Killevy, and I found all
the names of the sibblings which I eventually got from Armagh Ancestry anyway.
The people were very nice, and responded to all my questions within a
reasonable period of time. In both cases the cost was $25 per request. This
is actually very good, as the second time, I received for baptismal records
for a single price. In contract, Co. Kildare chargres you per record, and
per request.
I also have written to the Ulster Historical Foundation, and had a bad
experience. I sent them the names of the children that I had found through
Armagh Ancestry. Basically, they asked Armagh Ancestry for the same
information I sent them, and wrote me back that it was correct, and charged
me an arm and a leg for it. They also told me that for the other arm and the
other leg, they would look up some more records of the info I really wanted
int he first place. I am going to write them to express my dissatisfaction
with their service. I would not recomment it.
Good luck.
Colleen
