Hi all
For Eleanor and other McCANN researchers, here are some extracts from the Brownlow Lease Book (1667-1711) - verbatim.
DERRIVICASH - Quarter of (Derrivicash) in consideracon of four pounds fine, leased to Phelim mcCANN with like exceptions (referring to another quartered lease) for the same terme rent (three pounds, ten shillings), duties and condicons as McFALOONES lease (he leased another quarter) dated 20 August 1672. Witness: W(illia)m JONES, Brownlowe JONES, Owen McKAGHULY. Three pounds, ten shillings rent and three shillings per house duties.
The other halfe quarter of the same in consideracon of thirty shillings fine leased to Bryan Boy mcCAN with like exceptions for the same term at the rent of one pound, fifteen shillings like duties and condicons as the rest, dated 20 September (16)77. Present: L(ettice) ASTON, Ell(inor) JONES, W(illia)m KELLIHER.
NOTE: Lettice ASTON was the mother of Arthur BROWNLOW, widow of William BROWNLOW.
CANN'S TENEMENT AND CORMICK'S TENEMENT (LURGAN) - All those the two messuages or tenements late in the possession of Hen(ry) mcCORMICKE and Twoll mcCANN with their appurtenances (except roialties) in consideration of five pounds fine lease to Joshua COWLEY, clearke, for the lives naturall of himself, Sarah his wife, and Frances HOLEMAN, spinster, daughter to Degorie HOLEMAN, clearke, desceased, to commence the 25th March last past at the rent of five shillings per annum vltra reprizas, to be paid by equall portions at Michaelmas and Ladie Day yearelie, and if the rent be in arrears ten daies after any the daies of paiment then to distraine and for want of sufficient distress to reenter; suit of courts and mills to bee performed by the said Joshua COWLEY, fireboots and house boot for building or reparations to bee appointed the A(rthur) or his heires or their wood ranger in the countrie; a clause of warrantie against Alexander ASTON and Lettice his wife and all dowries thirds!
joinctures and annuities due or claim'd by them or either or them, and all others claimeing from by or under him. In witness etc. the 20th July 1666 18 Charles 2d liverie and seisin given and delivered. Witness: Fulk(e) MARTIN, Phi(lemon) CHAMERLAINE, Tho(mas) DAWSON, clearke MAGHERALIN, five shillings.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Joshua COWLEY became Prebendary of DROMARA in 1662 and was thus also rector of SHANKILL.
