Greetings,
I'm searching for information on the third wife of Morris E Alpaugh
(1823-1878) who was my gg grandfather. Their gravestone calls her Catherine
Mahala Lawrence (Lion), 1825-1907. The book of Hunterdon County marriages
lists her as Catherine Lawrence. They were married in 1855, possibly at the
Reformed Church in Lebanon. I belive that Catherine's parents may have been
Charles Lyon (1786-1825) and Ann Ruloffsen (1791-1863). If so, then her
father died at about the time of her birth. Ann remarried after Charles'
death a David Felmley. I'm searching for evidence that proves that
Catherine's parents were indeed Charles and Ann. I am also trying to find out
the meaning of the Lawrence surname. I suspect that Catherine may have been
married at least once before marrying Morris (she was 30 when they were
married) and that Lawrence may have been her first husband's surname. Once
again, any help with these mysteries would be greatly appreciated.
