STREATER John; RICHEY John; Wrrn&Hntrdn Cos, NJ,USA; 1738-
I have yet to figure out how John and Mary (STREATER) RICHEY relate
to my direct ancestors, John and Mary (____) RICHEY but it would
sure be interesting to be a STREATER again! Any dates, ancestors,
or descendants for the following would be greatly appreciated.
The RICHEY'S came to New York from the North of Ireland
about 1738, some of them settled in New York City and went
into the Hotel business, the rest came to Asbury and settled
on a farm between Asbury [Warren Co., NJ] and West Portal on
what is now known as The DEBOER Farm. This farm was the
RICHEY Homestead for many years. John RICHEY married Mary
STREATER and when he died she moved to the home now owned by
Mrs. William L'HOMMEDIEU and lived there until she died at the
age of 95.
John and Mary STREATER RICHEY'S children were: William;
Elizabeth married Danial OSMUN; Frances married Cabel OSMUN;
John; Catherine; Robert married Caroline WILSON; Danial; and
Sarah who married John SMITH.
...
At one time the RICHEY family owned eight farms around
Asbury. The Homestead farm, George RICHEY owned the farm
where William HEAVENER lived and the Mrs. Harriet SMITH farm;
William RICHEY owned the PLENGE farm at the corner of Main
Street and Bloomsbury Road; James RICHEY the first farm on the
road to Hampton (FOX Farm). The Lester GARDNER and the farm
next to it was also owned by Daniel and Elizabeth RICHEY
OSMUN. (Bicentennial Booklet of Asbury, Warren County, New
Jersey [1971])
