I'm researching all HOTRUM, HOTRAM, HARTRUM, HARDRAM, etc. as part of a
"one name" study.
Conrad HOTRUM and his family moved from NJ to Ontario, Canada in 1793/4.
A few individuals with these surnames appear in the IGI with locations
of New Germantown, Tewksbury, Zion, Hunterdon county.
A child of Conrad gave his place of birth as Morris county, NJ.
I believe that the original name was either HARTRANFT or HARTUNG.
Was the 1790 Hunterdon-Morris county line different than today?
Can anyone suggest places to search for information about these names in
this time-frame "from a distance"? I'm stuck with this line and want to
get them back to ? -- (Germany?). Any other suggestions?
Thanks for any help, - Dave
