I am looking for information on the GEORGE P. WOOLEY and CHARLOTTE
(SHOTWELL) family's. My gg-gfather, George W. WOOLEY was born to them
on Sept. 26 1836 in NJ. According to LDS records he was christened on
9/26/1836 along with his sister Elizabeth Sharp WOOLEY. Now, there is a
conflict.. the records show the event took place in German Valley,
Morris NJ AND Oldwick, Hunterdon NJ. The third child Charlotte WOOLEY
was christened on 9/22/1839 in both locations as well.

"Grandad, George W. Wooley the Whaler" as the old family tale goes, ran
away from a blacksmith in New York that his father had bound him out to
at about the age of 10. Grandad went to Mass. and sailed on the "GANGES"
to the Sandwich Islands and Australia. I have found all of the
information on this story to be true BUT can't find GW Wooley on any
crew list as yet..He returned.. He lived with his sisters in Sparta,
ILL. and joined the Army and fought with Grant at Belmont. He left ILL.
and moved to Bellevue, MI. M: Loesa (Louisa) Amelia Sturdevant
3/6/1866. Lived his live there until abt. 1915.. went in search of his
old sea buddies. Where he died, is a mystery. A relative had a
newpaper article about his trip.. it was lost.

Most Wooley's I find have roots to NJ.... anyone out there ???
