Hopewell was never a county it was originally part of Hunterdon County and
set off to Mercer County abt 1838 when Mercer was formed, returned to
Hunterdon about a year later and returned Then returned to Mercer.

Yes, until about 1838. It was formed from parts of Burlington, Hunterdon,
and Middlesex Counties
