Hello to other Hunterdon County researchers-
I've been working on a number of branches of my ancestry who were in
Hunterdon County. As my first, trial, message to this list, I'd like to
query about the following:

Is anyone working on or does anyone know which Van Ness/Vannest families
were living in Alexandria around 1800? I copied this record:

John SOWDERS of Mansfield married Helena VAN NEST of Alexandria, April
4, 1803 in Kingwood. (From"New Jersey Marriages, 1803-1810, in 'The
Federalist & NJ State Gazette' at the State Library, Trenton, NJ" copied
by Edwin W. Wheat)
[Note: Helena may also have been called "Lena" or "Leanah".

"Hunterdon County Marriages" by Hiram Deats lists this marriage:
LOUDERS, George and Sarah VANESS, Nov. 6, 1801, vol 1, p. 44. [ As the
script "S" in SOUDERS/SOWDERS is often indexed to "L" ] this couple
could be siblings of the first couple.

I'm aware that there were numerous families named Van Ness in NJ and was
hoping that there's someone out there who may be sorting them all out.

I'm also looking for ALL records for SOUDERS/SOWDERS in Hunterdon County.
As they've proven to be quite elusive, I thought maybe chasing the VAN
NESTs for a while might be more productive.
Regards,
Marilyn Souders
