Regarding the use of Esq... if someone settled an estate, I believe they
did not have to be an attorney back in the 1800s?
Reason for asking and stirring the Esq discussion, an ancestor of mine is
referenced as Nathaniel Rounsavell, Esq. back in the early 1800s in
Hunterdon County. No record of him being an attorney but do show that he
was the administrator of some estates, etc. Does this mean he was an
attorney or just a "highly regarded gentleman"???
