Marcy Opdyke Bird's query, with the surnames BRITTON, OPDYKE, and
ROCKAFELLOW included leads me to ask if anyone can extend this Hunterdon
family outline back in time (note that HUDNUT is variously spelled
HUDNET, -NIT, -NOT, and -NUTT, although some -NETs are really HODNETS,
another breed):
1 Charles P. HUDNET (1789-1871)
+Hannah BRITTON
2 Charles B. HUDNIT (1824-1893)
+Margaret Ann RANDALL (1833-1914)
3 Samuel B. [BRITTON?] HUDNIT (1853-1899)
+Mary Emma ____ (1847-1924)
4 John T. K. HUDNIT (1880- )
4 Laura E. [Emma?] HUDNIT (1883- )
4 Albert Carrolton HUDNIT (1880- )
4 Stanley Britton HUDNIT (1887-1968)
2 Lydia Ann HUDNIT (1813- )
+Peter ROCKAFELLOW
2 Eliza HUDNIT
+Samuel LEWIS
3 A. R. LEWIS (1857- ) (genealogist and handwriting expert
whose Hudnut notes are in the collection of the Historical Society at
Flemington)
2 Clarenda HUDNIT
+John B. CASE
2 Samuel B. HUDNIT
+Mary YOUNG
Charles B. migrated to Wrightstown, Bucks Co., and he and his listed
descendants are all buried in Doylestown Cemetery. Charles P. HUDNET's
father may be John HUDNUT (sometimes HUDNOT) or Joseph HUDNUT, from
Amwell Twp and Hopewell, respectively, brothers of Isaiah HUDNUT, whose
outline goes like this:
1 Isaiah HUDNUT (1751-1828) (Amwell Twp)
+Margaret BARBER (1752-1835)
2 Nathaniel HUDNUT (1775-1854)
+Esther [Hetty?] EMMONS (I can extend this line)
2 Edward HUDNUT (1780- )
+Susan OPDYKE (noted in the Opdyke Genealogy)
2 Samuel HUDNUT (1790-1870)
+Sara Ann[a] WARFORD
3 Elisha Warford HUDNUT
3 Barber(?) HUDNUT
3 Rachael [sic] HUDNUT
3 Amy HUDNUT
2 Elizabeth HUDNUT
+David MOORE
2 Mary HUDNUT
+____ BRAY
2 Sarah HUDNUT
+Tunis QUICK (whose name came up in a recent query)
John, Joseph (who may have lived in Hopewell and married, 1764,
Catherine ANDERSON, daughter of Cornelius [about 1696 to about 1768,
Hopewell]), Richard II (Hopewell), and Isaiah HUDNUT are probably all
sons of Richard HUDNUT I, whose descendants are listed in MacKenzie
(which may lack validity). I'm trying to work backward from my 2nd
ggfather, Peter Moore HUDNUT (abt 1790-1828), of Solebury, Bucks Co.,
who emigrated from Hunterdon (my hypothesis) and married (14 November
1813) Mercy COOPER (about 1793-1873). Another Charles HUDNUT
(1806-1875) also lived and died in Bensalem, Bucks County; he was born
in NJ (census) and is of interest to me.
Any ideas or connections?
Charles David HUDNUT
