I just came across another Williamson fact tonight: I wrote to the
National Archives for the pension records for a Joshua Sowders from
Sussex County for the war of 1812. He fought in a company headed by
Capt. James Williamson described thusly:
[Joshua Sowders] was a private in the first company
commanded by Captain James Williamson, in the Third
Regiment of the Sussex Brigade of militia commanded by
Major Isaac Andrews in the war with Great Britain
declared by the United States on the 18th day of June
1812.
Joshua's widow, Ann Sowders, applied for a widow's pension in 1854 and
one of the witnesses to her affidavit was the same James Williamson:
We, James Williamson, (being the Captain James Williamson
above named) a resident of the Township of Franklin in the
County of Warren and State of New Jersey and John Bachman
of the Borough of Easton, State of Pennsylvania, upon our
oaths declare that the foregoing declaration was signed and
acknowledged by Ann Souders in our presence; and that we
