Federal census of the population were taken every ten years, beginning in 1790
for N.J. There are no extant copies of the Federal census for N.J. for 1790,
1800, 1810 or 1820. ( except for Cumberland Co. 1800. They were stolen and
burned by the British, so I'm told. There are Fedral census and State
population schedules for N.J. for the years 1830 - 1920. There are also N.J.
State census records. They were taken in the middle of each decade from 1855
to 1915. None are indexed. The 1855, 1865 and 1875 state census are
incomplete, in that some counties are omitted entirely, while others are
missing certain townships. I have a list on what ones are missing. Hope this
help's
