Don't remember who was looking for Dalrymples but I found this today in:
"Traditions of Hunterdon, Early History and Legends of Hunterdon County
NJ" originally published in 1869-70, author is believed to be John W.
Lequear, c1957 D. H. Moreau, Flemington.
The Dalrymple family, numerous in Kingwood, are of Scotch descent, and
have retained many of their family characteristics.....
James Dalrymple, a descendant of a younger son of the third Earl of
Stair, came to this country at the solicitation of James Alexander,
father of William Lord Sterling, in 1765. He was a fifer in the militia
of New Jersey, and did his diuty just as faithfully under Washington, as
his illustrious ancester did under the great Marlborough.
p.122
The Dalrymple family, noticed in the last chapter, attended this church,
and were probably leading members.... p.124
So, you might try Kingwood Presbyterian Church (Hunterdon County).
Good hunting.
