Hello again,
In a probably vain attempt to get further with my Smith line, I wonder if
anyone knows of a prominent (or otherwise) man in Hunterdon County in the
1820's or 1830's whose first name was Nathan and whose last name began
with a D.?
My gggrandfather was named Nathan D. Smith and lived in the Bethlehem Twp
area, later at the end of the century, in Frenchtown.
Also, I uncovered a number of men named Smith in the 1860 census for
Union (formerly Bethlehem?) Twp who were listed as "shoemakers". Can
anyone tell me whether there was a home industry of shoemaking in
existence then?
Thanks,
Marilyn
