Thanks to the several listers who contributed to my question from
yesterday about Nathan D. Smith.
I do not know the names of his parents ... this is one of the puzzles I'd
hoped, perhaps, that following up on the Nathan D. longshot might solve.
Yes, I'd hoped that another Nathan D. might lead to his wife's family
name or a prominent neighbor. Thanks to both Carol and Geoffrey for
their contributions too. None of those Nathans or Nathaniels give me any
immediate brainstorms.
My Nathan D. Smith was born abt 1834 and died after 1900. He married
Catherine Meligan (Melligan, Milligan) daughter of James and Elizabeth
(Eldridge) Meligan abt 1860. They had three sons. I find Nathan in
Hunterdon County in the 1850 - 1880 censuses.
