Hi List:

Do we have any Hunterdon County Revolutionary War experts on the list?

The book "Traditions of Hunterdon - Early History and Legends of
Hunterdon County, New Jersey" says on Page 101. "When the men first
went into service in the spring of 1776, we find Captain William
Chamberlain's company going from Amwell; and soon after, the captain
being promoted as major, Nathan Stout was made captain and Philip
Service and Christopher Fisher, lieutenants."

I know that the service of Captain William Chamberlin (later LT COL) and
Captain Nathan Stout (who wrote the 1823 history of the STOUT Family),
are well documented.

Page 146 of "A History of East Amwell 1700-1800" shows Revolutionary War
Service for two men named Christopher Fisher. One b. 1735, the other b.
1759. Both men are credited with enlisted service in the Revolutionary
War.

My question: is there any documentation that the Christopher Fisher b.
1735 is the Lieutenant Christopher Fisher mentioned in the first book?
I was at the NJ Archives several years ago and the only information they
provided to me was for enlisted service. At that time I did NOT know
that there was a possibility of service as an officer.

I have a copy of the inventory of Christopher Fisher Jr. d. 31 Aug 1804,
aged 25-5-16 the son of Christopher Fisher b. 1735 and his wife Mary
Young. Christopher Fisher Jr's inventory includes "a pistol, holster,
sword and whip". A POSSIBLE explanation for his having these items is
that they belonged to his father Christopher Fisher and would indicate
that his father MAY have been a commissioned officer since he had a
pistol and sword which were not normally used by enlisted soldiers.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might persure either
proving or disproving this theory?
