I am looking for info on a John LAKE from Hunterdon County. I don't know
the name of his spouse. He had at least one child, Abraham, born in 1796
in Hunterdon Co.

This John was said to have an extensive business as an auctioneer. Does
anyone know of any records pertaining to auctioneers in Hunterdon Co that
might be available?

John was also said to be a prominent politician. Are there records
anywhere that I might interrogate to help me?

John was also sheriff of the county at some point. I've checked with the
county and their records pertaining to sheriffs don't go back that far.
Does anyone here know where I might be able to find further info?
