Bob and Michelle:
For Bob, I looked further in the above-named book, and found also on
page 87, Daniel FRENCH, also listed as a Private, Third Regiment, State
Troops, Continental Army, Fourth Battalion, Second Establishment.
Jeremiah FRENCH had no company listed beside his name.
Also on p. 95 from Somerset County, David FRENCH was listed as private,
with no company listed.
Also on p. 95 were listed Joseph FRENCH, Private in Capt. Coonrad TEN
EYCK's Company, and William FRENCH, Private in Capt. Jacob TEN EYCK's
company, both from Somerset County.
There are a few other FRENCH's in the book, but they are much later, in
the Civil War period.
For Michelle, also, I wanted to tell you both that the book contains
about 75 pages of "Hunterdon and Somerset Counties in the Revolutionary
War". This is quite informative reading about these two counties and
their activities during this war. Also Michelle you mentioned a
commander for the 2nd Regiment whose last name ended in LL.
I have noticed many of the men listed in the 2nd Regiment, in Capt.
MAXWELL's company. His first name was not mentioned in these listings.
Hope this helps you to decipher the name in your list.
Bob, I also wanted to ask you about your "LYNN" line. Are your LYNN's
from New Jersey? I have "LINN's" as one of my family lines, from New
Jersey. A John LINN who lived in Oxford, Warren County, NJ and had been
born in either Virginia or Maryland, is my oldest LINN ancestor that I
have found yet. I don't think the spelling is that important. Just
curious if there could be any connection.
Best regards,
Arline
