Bill in Ft Walton Florida, I went over to the church and looked in the
original records. There is no mention of a daughter Nellie born
17Jan1754 but there is a daughter born as listed:
1764 Sept 2 Dominie Johannus Martinus Van Harlingen and his wife Sarah
daughter baptised Maria
witness Maria Van Harlingen
There is this Nelly, who is close to the date you gave:
1754 February 10 Garret Van Arsdalen and wife Lauresia Nelly
This is from the church history 1727-1951:
"The Rev. John Martinus Van Harlingen (1724-1795), Minister - Harlingen
and Neshanic 1762 - 1795. Educated in Holland and ordained by the
Classis of Amsterdam. For 33 years he was the minister of the combined
churches, a forceful preacher, faithful pastor and profound scholar. He
was of the original Board of Trustees of Queens College. His preaching
was exclusively in the Dutch language. He died on the 23rd of Dec 1795
and was buried underneath the pulpit of the Church. When the church was
rebuilt his remains were moved to the Church Cemetery."
I have at home the church directory from 1933-34. It lists the infants
baptized during the previous nine years as well as the weddings. If
anyone has a lookup for that time period and can send me an email today
or this evening, I'll try to help.
