Carol,

I grew up and my parents still live in present day Hunterdon Co. in
Flemington. The Raritan River (spelled this way) is in this area and
generally when referring to anywhere near the region surrounding it the
word Raritan is sometimes used. For instance my brother was once in the
paper for something he had invented and the title of the article was
"Raritan Man............whatever the rest was".
