Al,
Thanks! I live in Monmouth County, not a native of NJ though. I do
know that the Raritan Bay is north of the county. From what I can tell on my
county map...it follows Monmouth County into Middlesex County. The Raritan
River is also the county line for Middlesex & Somerset Counties at the
north-east lines and splits Perth & South Amboy at the mouth of the river in
the bay.
I looked on my Middlesex County map, there is a Raritan Bay Beach right over
the county line from Monmouth. The Raritan River doesn't even flow past
Raritan Twp. in Hunterdon County.
I'm wondering IF at one time Hunterdon County, along with Somerset &
Middlesx Counties, was considered the Raritan Region due to the formation of
the River. Hmmm....
I've followed the river best I could. From the looks of my county maps, the
Raritan River connects with other smaller rivers along the way and into
Spruce Ram Resvior before being called the Raritan River once again flowing
back into Somerset County in the south-west.

We need to be careful here. There are other areas of New Jersey that
use to go by the name of Raritan. There was, at one time, a Raritan in
northern Monmouth County.
