Lisa,
Here's a message I'm forwarding from my cousin (actually a
three-times-removed) in Lancaster cuz she's a dingaling and refuses to
learn how to "send". She can only "get new message"!

"9/9/99
I recently received an email letter from a relative who subscribes to
NJHUNTER mailing list. When she noticed your request for information
about Clara Rogers and the fact that she once lived in Hopewell, she
forwarded the request to my sister and my sister forwarded it to me as
we lived across the street from Clara for a period of time. At that
time (and I have no idea how long a period it was) she was living with
her Uncle Roy Drake and his wife, Lillian. Lillian may have been a
sister to Hilda.

I can't remember whether she lived across the street while our family
was going through a really rough period. My mother was suffering from
cancer for nearly a year and we kids were shuttled off to relatives a
lot. I find this from reading one of my mother's diaries (just found)
so it's not surprising that I can't remember too much about that year.
It's best blocked out.

I always liked Clara, knew Nolan Burd and his family also. I'd
forgotten she married him. Must have known it at the time. My memory
of those years is pretty vague. I seem to remember that some relative
of Clara's lived out on Route 518 (you mentioned 528) by the name of
Barry between Hopewell and Lambertville. That's pretty vague but since
this wonderful computer age is so wonderful maybe you could search
"Barry" and find something. I see she was just about a month older than
I but I don't remember her ever being in school classes with me. Maybe
that one month was a cutoff date for entering school. Who knows?

Well, that's about all I can give you about Clara. I just called an
in-law of the Drake family to see if she knew anything about Clara but
all I'm writing about was before she married into the family. So - I've
exhausted my search. Sorry I've been so longwinded with this. You
could send me your address if you'd like in case I run into a picture of
Clara taken when we were neighbors. I could send it to you.

A friendly greeting from a long ago friend of Clara Rogers
Margaret Hullfish McCandless

Lisa, if you contact me privately I can give you Margaret's email
address. I'm posting this also on NJHUNTER with the hope that someone
will read it and can contribute more to you!
