Subject: [NJHUNTER] Rittenhouse Cemetery

I am interested in the cemetery, usually called Rittenhouse Cemetery, which
is located some distance behind and to one side of the Wolverton Inn in the
Prallsville/Stockton area of the county. I tried to visit it this past
Monday but was advised by locals not to make the attempt until either late
Fall or early Spring - because of undergrowth, deer ticks and mud - and in
any event to wear "hiking" clothes rather than the suit I had on at the
time ;-) . I'm told that there is no road/lane accessing it.
My questions are two:
- Folks named Rittenhouse and Cavanaugh are buried there, perhaps amongst
others. I believe the burials encompassed the period circa 1750-1850. Does
anyone know of a "inventory" of those buried there, or of the inscriptions
on gravestones? I have seen fragmentary information along this line about
some Cavanaughs, but I am looking for something more comprehensive.
- Has anyone on the list been there, and if so, at what time of year and
how was access obtained (the only route I know is by foot through the rear
of the Wolverton Inn property)?
Thanks.
