This is another clipping from my grandfather's Bible, and again it is
undated. I recognize one name, that of Mrs. John Errickson, who was my great
grandfather's sister. Her maiden name was Lillian Phillips, and she was born
in 1868. I believe this clipping to be from the same time period as the other
I posted, sometime between 1915 and 1920.
"Pennington
A host of the young friends of Miss Mildred Hart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John W. Hart, gave a variety shower in her honor at the home of her parents a
few days ago in recognition of the near approach of her marriage to Earl
Burroughs, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Burroughts, of the Scotch road. The
wedding will take place at the home of the bride's parents Thanksgiving Day.
Miss Hart received a great many beautiful and useful presents. Those present
were: Mrs. Garrett Oldis, Mrs. A. H. Burroughs, Mrs. Raymond Thornton, Mrs.
Oscar Van Dyke, Mrs. Walter Bennett, Mrs. John Errickson, Mrs. Cornelius
Dallas, Mrs. W. A. Reed, Mrs. N. N. Reed, Mrs. George Hulit, Mrs. William T.
Yard, Mrs. James Sluser, Mrs. I. C. Wyckoff, Mrs. L. D. Applegate, Mrs. Oscar
Woolsey, Miss Amanda Drake, Miss Mary Titus, Miss Elizabeth Voorhees, Miss
Edna Applegate, Miss Helen Hulit, Miss Hazel Sked, Miss Edna Servis, Miss
Edna Wyckoff, Miss Anna Wyckoff, Miss Lillian Oldis, Miss Mary Bennett, Mrs.
Annie Hart, Mr. and Mrs. John Hart and Arthur Yard, of Pennington; Mrs.
Joseph R. Burroughts, Mrs. Orion Burroughs, Mrs. James Blackwell, Mrs.
William Northrup, Mrs. Edgar Van Doren, Mrs. H. K. Stryker, Miss Clara
Blackwell, Miss Marion Stryker, Miss Emma Genther, Miss Mabel Van Dyke, Miss
Alma Hixson, William and Edgar Northrup, of Hopewell; Mrs. LeRoy Woodward,
Mrs. N. R. Hixson, Mrs. John Fritz, Mrs. Walter Abbott, Mrs. Joshua Hunt,
Mrs. William Runkle, Mrs. Leo Drake, Miss Helen Drake, Mrs. Charity Titus,
Mrs. S. T. Cox, Miss Myrtle Cox and Jack Fritz of Glen Moore; Mrs. L. F.
Brick, Mrs. Lester Cox, Miss Dorothy Cox, of Trenton, Miss Ella Burroughts,
or Ewing."
Also the following notice:
"James Morrell weds Miss Blackburn
James Morrell and Miss Sophronia Blackburn, both of Hopewell, were
married this morning at 10:00, at the Calvary Baptist parsonage, the ceremony
being performed by the pastor, Rev. W. J. Hayes. They were attended by Miss
Violet Everitt and W. G. Lowe.
The bride was becomingly attired in a blue traveling suit. Shortly after
the ceremony the happy couple left for a honeymoon trip of a few days to
Atlantic City.
The guests in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. William Yontz, parents of the
bride; Mr. and Mrs. William W. Morrell, parents of the groom; Miss Daniese
Morrell, a sister of the groom, and Hartwell Cray.
Mr. and Mrs. Morrell, upon their return, will reside in Hopewell, where they
are well and favorably known. The bride has for some time been employed in
the local office of the telephone company, and the groom holds a poisition as
machinist in the garage of John S. Blackwell."
Since my grandmother was a telephone operator in Hopewell prior to her
marriage in 1917, and her subsequent move to Philadelphia, it is possible
that she knew many of these people (especially the new Mrs. Morrell who was
also employed by the telephone company), and that these clippings were sent
to her by her family in Hopewell.
Again, I would be happy to hear from anyone who recognizes any names.
